Black is the New Black | Modern & Edgy Denver Styled Shoot at JW Marriott Cherry Creek

Ever feel like breaking tradition? As you plan your wedding, I’m sure you’ve come across dozens of them — many of which you may not even know the origin. As 2018 comes to an end, we’ve noticed a major shift in wedding trends and customs. From wedding color palettes to attire to invitation etiquette and everything in between, many modern couples forgo “tradition” and opt to create a wedding day catered specifically to them. Here are a few traditions that many couples skipped in 2018: retail registries, wedding favors, saving the first look for the aisle, classic tiered wedding cakes, formal ceremony programs, matching bridesmaid dresses, flower girls and ring bearers, bouquet and garter toss, and more. Also included in this list? White wedding dresses!

One of our favorite advice for brides while they’re looking for a wedding dress is that there are NO rules. More and more we are meeting brides who don’t want to walk down the aisle in an all-white (or ivory) wedding dress. Some women lean toward deeper toned gowns that make ivory lace & sparkle pop, while others want something even a little more dramatic.

The JW Marriott at Cherry Creek was the perfect venue for this bold, edgy styled shoot. The modern Denver vibe served as the perfect canvas. It’s sleek, artsy feel features many unique spaces for fabulous photo-ops. And the cozy, romantic fire pit? Sign us up!

For this JW Marriott styled shoot, we wanted to break tradition and go bold with a black wedding dress by Martina Liana. Every detail was inspired by the ultra-gorgeous “Stevie” skirt paired with the “Brody” bodice (both available in other colors). Kimberly Rose Events and Erin Ashley Design created fabulous details that paired romance with an edgy, urban vibe. We mixed trendy metallic elements with some desert details to create a Colorado feel that is more edgy than rustic.
