Describe the style/design of your wedding day:
Crystal described her wedding day style as a “traveling class act”. All of the bridal party (except for the flower girl) wore black, truly a classic color. She and Justin wanted to incorporate travel into their theme because their entire relationship was founded on their travels throughout the United States. Because the two travel full-time for Justin’s work, their friendships with the members of the bridal party occured in various locations along the way, making travel the perfect theme for their destination wedding in Rapid City, South Dakota.
Share about your dress shopping experience – what was your vision, did it change? What was important to you when choosing a dress?
When Crystal first started her dress shopping journey, she had an entirely different wedding vision in mind. Originally they were imagining a country-themed soiree, so when she looked for a dress, she kept that in mind. One of her favorite styles was vintage lace, especially if it featured a touch of gold. As she tried on dresses, Crystal knew she wanted an open back wedding dress. It was important that her wedding dress would showcase her tattoo which she got in memory of her grandfather.
Crystal fell in love with “Roberta” by Maggie Sottero. The sheath silhouette was flattering and comfortable, and the sweetheart neckline was ultra-romantic. Adorned in hand-placed lace appliques and a dramatic scooped back, this dress had everything Crystal dreamed of — down to the beautiful ivory over light gold color! Although her wedding day vision changed from country to traveling class act, her long-sleeved, lace wedding dress with an open back was still perfect.
What is a moment from your wedding day that you will never forget?
Crystal will never forget the mother-daughter dance. When she was growing up, her father was not involved — so Crystal’s mom worked extremely hard to raise her and her brother. As a result, Crystal’s relationship with her mom is something they both cherish very much. Dedicating a special dance during the reception to honor her mom was important to Crystal to signify all they’ve been through and conquered together. They danced to “Mama’s Song” by Carrie Underwood, and as they danced, Crystal sang to her mom — bringing the entire room to tears.
Did you have any personal touches incorporated in your special day?
Crystal could not imagine her wedding day without her sweet dog Tucker. He was her service dog for four years, playing huge role in her life. Because of this, she knew that no matter what the wedding day looked like, he would be there. Tucker, who walked down the aisle with the flower girl, was one of the cutest ring-bearers we’ve ever seen. Of course, he joined everyone at the reception as well!
Any advice for future brides?
“The biggest piece of advice I have for for future brides would be to remember that this is the day for you and your groom! Everyone is going to have an opinion on every single detail but what matters is the vision you two want! Do not alter that for the sake of preserving others’ feelings.”
