A Beach Glam Mexico Resort Wedding
We’re back this week with another beautiful bride! Betty is a family friend of one of our employees, so this one hits home! You know the drill…get cozy and grab a box of tissues because you’re going to need them for this beach glam wedding story!
How She Met Her Partner
People always talk about how weddings are the perfect place for people to meet, and Betty’s story is proof! How can you not think about love when the entire day is about celebrating a couple’s love for one another? Picture this – it’s Memorial Day Weekend, and the weather is starting to warm up in Denver. Betty walks down the aisle as a bridesmaid and immediately locks eyes with a handsome guest, Filmon. During the reception, Filmon approaches Betty, and the spark between the two is undeniable. Even though Filmon lived in Seattle, this didn’t stop them from exchanging numbers and continuing to grow their relationship. As Betty put it, there were “countless hours spent on FaceTime and thousands of miles traveled between Denver and Seattle.”
Her Proposal Story
We asked Betty to tell us her proposal story, and let’s just say she described it better than we ever could. Here is what she wrote:
“A ‘Friendsmas’ turned proposal. Filmon contacted one of my best friends in November to share the big news…he was ready to pop the question! From that day forward, Filmon actively planned the proposal with help from our loved ones.
My friends planned a ‘Friendsmas’ lunch at Pappadeaux on December 18th. Filmon was in town for the holidays, but he didn’t join us for lunch because he would be the only guy. Instead, he agreed to hang out at the house until I returned. What a perfect way to get me out of the house so Filmon and his friends could set everything up. One of my friends insisted that we dress up for lunch since we never do. Really, they just wanted to make sure I was dressed up for the life changing moment that was to come.
My parents were supposedly hosting a graduation party for my cousin who had just graduated from college that weekend, so I knew the house would be full of family and ready to celebrate my cousin’s accomplishment when I returned from lunch. I wasn’t surprised when I saw cars lined up around my house, but as I pulled into the driveway, I was confused. I noticed a sign on the driveway a that read ‘THIS IS WHERE OUR FOREVER STARTS’. I walked through my backyard on a path lined with rose petals and candles until I reached a nervous (and relieved) Filmon. He was standing in front of giant marquee letters that spelled ‘Marry Me’. With the acoustic sounds of ‘Speechless’ playing in the background, Filmon shared these words with me: ‘These past two and half years have been amazing. Your love makes my life beautiful and in you, my heart has found a home. You’re truly my perfect match and my greatest blessing. I want to love you for the rest of my life. Bethlehem Gessesse, will you marry me?’ I cried and said ‘YES!’ The house literally erupted in cheers with everyone eagerly waiting to embrace us and celebrate the beautiful moment.
Safe to say, Filmon and my friends got me GOOD, but the shock only continued. I walked into the house to find not only my loved ones, but also Filmon’s closest friends and family who had flown in from Seattle. We spent the entire weekend celebrating memorable moments with all of our loved ones.”

Her Wedding Dress Shopping Experience at The Bridal Collection
Betty first learned about The Bridal Collection from a referral from a family friend. Her favorite part about shopping at The Bridal Collection was “how caring and helpful everyone was.” This was further solidified by the moment when Betty found her beach glam wedding dress. A princess herself, Betty was interested in shopping The Disney Fairy Tale Weddings Collection. She stepped into D324 Jasmine from Allure’s Disney Fairy Tale Weddings Collection and immediately “felt beautiful in it!” What’s even more special is that it was the first wedding dress she tried on. When we asked Betty what her favorite dress details were, she said “the iridescent sequins and the sheer lace cutouts. It truly made me feel like a bride.”.
Her Beach Glam Wedding Day
Prior to the big day, we asked Betty if she had a vision for her wedding day. Without hesitating, she said “beach glam.” Call us bias, but we think she nailed it. The wedding day was absolutely STUNNING! Betty and Filmon tied the knot at Dreams Aventuras Riviera Maya Resort in Quintana Roo, Mexico. Betty’s favorite memory with Filmon was their trip to Jamaica, which some say inspired their location choice for the wedding.
An exceptionally unique part of their wedding day was honoring Betty’s heritage with Ethiopian wedding traditions. Whether Betty and Filmon were in a sexy fitted wedding dress and tuxedo or their traditional Ethiopian wardrobe, the love shared between the two was tangible. Betty described her ceremony as “magical, emotional, and truly my fairy tale ending!” We couldn’t have said it better, and The Bridal Collection was honored to be a part of her journey.
