2019 bridal trends

2018 was a wild year for wedding gowns! From barely there dresses to the jumpsuit making its triumphant return, we have been more fearless than ever in our bridal styles. Some of the biggest looks from last year aren’t going anywhere in 2019 (I’m looking at you deep v-neck) but we’re also seeing a huge push for more simple gowns, unique laces and drama. And just like high waisted jeans, chokers and round glasses made a comeback in fashion, expect the 90’s comeback in bridal as well. Here are some of my fav trends to look out for in 2019.

Simple

It looks like the dust is beginning to settle on the boho trend, and in its wake, we’re searching for something different from what we’ve seen in the past. One of the most unique trends we can expect to walk down the aisle is also the simplest. Call it the Markle effect, but we are seeing a huge return to simply elegant gowns with more architectural details such as structural bows and pickups. High end fabrics including mikado, silk satin and faille’s are all making their way back in a variety of styles. Whether you’re an ethereal goddess, fashionably formal, or a laid back kind of bride, there is a look for everyone.

Savannah Miller’s newest collection from London is perfect for the garden or the art gallery, bringing a sort of British cool to the United States with her simple silhouettes. Justin Alexander’s twist on the traditional is perfect for subtle drama and old Hollywood glamour. And for an Audrey Hepburn meets Meghan Markle look, Sareh Nouri’s clean lines and phenomenal bows make a statement that will never go out of style.

Three Dimensional Lace

By using layers of lace, texture and embellishment to create dimension, this new trend mixes whimsy and romance for an update on the classic lace gown. Lace has been synonymous with weddings for as long as people have been getting married, and while the classic lace look will never go out of style, it’s time for an update! The new look lace is highlighted in mermaid cuts, dramatic ball gowns and distinctive accessories (think ethereal capes and veils!).

Martina Liana is the official queen of romantic wedding dresses! Her unique colors (some of my favorites include Moscato, Honey and Maple) and textures are blended for an innovative and updated look. While Lazaro, known for their couture, hand made gowns, continues to create drama with delicate details. L’Amour’s Spring 2019 collection also featured a lot of stunning 3D lace, perfect for a wedding under the stars or in a castle.

Plunging Necklines

Much to our mother’s dismay, the deep v-neckline isn’t going anywhere in 2019. But this year, we will be seeing this deep plunge done a little more subtly, and mixed with traditional styles. The result is a understated and elegant gown, with a seductive hint of what lies beneath.

Madison James’ fun and flirty gowns are ideal for a classic, yet playful vibe. Their nude illusion disappears perfectly onto the body giving the illusion of a deep cut neckline without the need of fashion tape. Martina Liana uses traditional silhouettes to balance out deep v-necklines, keeping the style church appropriate and fiance approved. And Maggie Sottero evokes wonder and romance with her fusion of soft fabrics and shimmer.

Ball Gowns

For a long time, ball gowns were thought of as too princess-y or over the top for most people’s weddings, but thankfully, these big beauties that used to be passed by on the rack are once again having their time to shine. When it comes to weddings, we tend to get a little too logical about our gown, forgetting that your dress should match you and your personality, not your venue.  Who cares if you are wearing a ball gown on the beach or in a barn? If it makes you feel beautiful, and most importantly, like a bride, that is the only thing that matters!

Sottero and Midgley’s Spring collection was filled with incredible and dramatic ball gowns. With their unconventional twists on established styles, these gowns are made to wow. Allure Couture writes a fairytale with their full skirts and dreamy laces. And Lazaro, the undisputed king of the ball gown, took our breath away with their new glitter tulle that shines like diamonds.

2019 is going to be an incredible mix of new styles, updated trends and some 90’s throwbacks. Don’t panic when you see taffeta or pickups, they’re getting a remodel for 2019 and you might be surprised by how fabulous they are! Also keep an eye out for scoop necks, big bows, satin and a return to all ivory. What trends are you ready to leave behind in 2018, and which ones are you most excited for in 2019?
