Sarah visited The Bridal Collection and found a beautiful…
Blush is the New Black
By TBC on September 19, 2012
Things are a changing here in the bridal world! A long, long time ago, wedding gowns used to be in color. Then a little lady came along by the name of Queen Victoria and changed everything. Deciding to forgo the tradition of wearing whichever color looked the best on, she decided to wear a simple white gown, and the world quickly followed. Since then, numerous shades of white and ivory have because the status quo for wedding gowns. But brides and now starting to branch out into the color world, and more and more girls are less afraid of not wearing the big white dress. Designers are starting to make gowns in tints of oyster (a lavender/silver-esque color), champagne, gold and even pale blues. But the color we expect to make the biggest splash in 2013 is blush. This soft pink is no longer for Mother of the bride or bridesmaids, and has taken center stage down the aisle. The soft hint of color is beautiful on most skin tones, bringing out a girly innocence and an unexpected twist on a traditional style.
Lazaro is one of our first designers to jump on the blush bandwagon. You may remember the Sherbet gown that was so popular, receiving its own episode on Say Yes To The Dress. This year, Lazaro upped the ante with this incredible gown (style 3250). With an understated silk organza bodice, Lazaro’s signature hand beading shining through with a gorgeous belt detail and the piece de resistance, a multi layered and colored tulle skirt finished with a horse hair trim. Horse hair (a finishing agent used on tulle to bring out the shape and give the tulle a finished edge) is also a new look for the bridal world, and will be adorning couture wedding gowns in 2013.
Maggie Sottero is also bringing in the blush color in her Spring 2013 collection. This show stopper (Divina) almost caused the website to crash after it hit the runway at Bridal Marker in New York! A playful organza ruched bodice with a fabulous silver beaded belt (you can also do a black velvet sash if you love that dramatic flair!) opening up into a mermaid style layered ruffled skirt with Maggie’s signature corset back. This is definitely a gown for the fashion forward bride with all the right curves!
Martina Liana is our newest designer to join us at The Bridal Collection, and has already made a big impression on our stylists and brides! Using pure silk, Martina has slipped in the most subtle hint of blush into her gowns. This style (411) has an incredibly hand beaded french alecon lace bodice that leads into a modified a-line silk organza skirt. Shown with an optional blush grosgrain ribbon, this soft gown brings out the hopeless romantic in us all.
To complete your look, no need to sacrifice your pink dream with an ivory veil. Our signature veil designer, Toni Federici has an incredible collection of veils in every color, and can also do custom designs to bring together your one of a kind look. Our special occasion stylist, Alexis was kind enough to model one of Toni Federici’s candy pink veil, as well as Galante headpiece and Ritzy earrings, all from Toni Federici’s collection.
We look forward to seeing our beautiful brides branch out in these unique gowns and colors in 2013!
