Colorado Goes Greek

Alexis combined her love for the outdoors with her Greek heritage for her wedding day. Her now-husband, Clinton, proposed on top of a 14er, so it was imperative that there were Colorado-inspired elements on the big day. Their wedding ceremony was held at the Assumption Greek Orthodox Cathedral. From the floor to the ceiling, this cathedral will take your breath away. The rich hues of the iconography make it feel like you’re stepping into a world of color and light. It was the perfect choice to represent her Greek heritage!

For the reception, Alexis and Clinton transformed the Hilton Denver Inverness into a mountain-inspired celebration. Wood pieces, natural decor, a Colorado groom’s cake, and a little bit of sparkle allowed guests to experience the essence of the Rockies!  Of course, the Greek traditions didn’t stop at the ceremony. Since this was the first Greek wedding for many of Clinton’s southern extended family members, Alexis and her family knew they had to go big. From the ouzo shots to throwing money at the bride and groom and the Greek dancing until the sun came up, it truly was a Greek celebration to remember.

Something Blue

Since Clinton is a police officer and Alexis is a nurse, it was important to them to include elements that represented the thin blue line. Their wedding day fell only six months after 3 Colorado officers lost their lives in the line of duty. To honor their sacrifice, there was a thin blue line through the groom’s cake, as well as small hints of blue among the wedding decor. Alexis had blue in her garter, and she pinned an old patch from Clinton’s department to the inside of her dress.

A Special Memory

Alexis’s father passed away from ALS just a few short years before her wedding day. To honor his life, she had a special pendant with photos of him, a memorial table at the reception, and the diamond earrings given by him to her mother. Because she’s an only child, she had her father’s brother walk her down the aisle to honor his memory. Even the venue was of special significance; before he passed away, Alexis’s father was a member at the Inverness golf course. It was fitting to celebrate her wedding there and take photos on the golf course at his favorite place.

The Dress

When Alexis was planning her wedding, the dress was the one thing she thought she had figured out. After countless episodes of watching “Say Yes to the Dress”, she dreamed of wearing lots of lace with a dramatic keyhole open back. After trying on a few dresses, her stylist at The Bridal Collection suggested she try on just one strapless lace gown. Alexis donned style #803 by Martina Liana — a stunning strapless fit and flare wedding dress. She felt like a total bombshell! The fantastic construction made it fit like a glove, and all of the unique details were perfect. Her dress featured a show stopping train which was a total dream in the cathedral!

Because this dress was totally different from what she imagined, Alexis wanted to “sleep on it” before purchasing. She couldn’t stop thinking about the dress! She HAD to have it. She said “picking out my dress with Bridal Collection was probably the easiest part of planning, and I couldn’t be more thankful! I was so sad when the night was over, just because I had to take my dress off!”

Advice for Brides

“My advice to future brides – do what YOU want to do, and get a good photographer! Don’t worry about offending people you can’t invite (if you can’t afford it don’t go bankrupt), take advice and your favorite pieces from weddings you’ve attended, but most importantly it’s about you and your spouse, so the day should be what you want, and reflective of your relationship! If things go wrong, just breathe, you get to marry your love and everything will work out the way it’s supposed to be in the end. Relationships have bumps and detours, so what’s a wedding day without some!!” – Alexis
